Hanmer Springs Horse Riders are a group of riders who may or may not live in Hanmer Springs but who either enjoy riding in or from Hanmer Springs to the surrounding High Country or who wish to support the efforts of HSHR to provide horse riding infrastructure in Hanmer Springs and the St. James Conservation Area (SJCA). HSHR advocates for horse riding in Hanmer and the surrounding High Country

Weekend experience of what to expect in terms of terrain and trail when trekking in the High Country
Maintains Stanley Vale hut and other horse related infrastructure within SJCA with the financial assistance of the Back Country Trust Fund
Seeks to build and maintain a track network around Hanmer Springs Basin with the financial assistance of the Hurunui District Council via the HSTNG (Hanmer Springs Track Network Group). Has built a skills park in HS for anyone to use.
Members are available by Facebook messenger or by phone to advise and/or assist riders wishing to trek in our local area, which would include SJCA, Molesworth Station, and beyond.
Private groups of members within the HSHR organise treks each season, which they may extend a welcome to new capable members
Maintains a website with information regarding riding in HS and SJCA with links to other relevant websites.
Maintains a Facebook Page where photos are posted of previous treks and upcoming events will be advertised and is available for other groups to post their upcoming treks/events.
Belongs to the HSTNG and through this to the Hurunui Trails Trust in order to advocate for the development of horse trails/riding in Hanmer Springs and the Hurunui District.
Liases with other groups in order to promote access and safety for trail riding and trekking in NZ
